Bimbe Festival partners Artful with Durham Parks and Grandparents Network for “Artful Women in Power: Legendary Ladies”
A tribute to and celebration of Hometown Heroines will be held May 16th during the monthly Downtown Durham Third Friday Art Walk and May 17th FREE for All People Expo & Art Show and as a feature of the 2008 Bimbe Festival.
Friday there will be a reception from 5pm to 8pm with FREE Entertainment provided by Footnotes Tap Ensemble and others, FREE Refreshments, FREE Admission and FREE Gifts for ALL People in downtown Durham at 108 Morris Street (beside the Durham Arts Council building near 5 Points) to kick off the festivities.
Artwork created by or inspired by women from the “Artful Women In Power Art Show” will be highlighted along with performing artists and a preview of work from “The Man Show” which will run throughout June.
On Saturday May 17th, a Tribute Program honoring the Artful Women in Power will be held from 3pm to 5pm. This all happens along with the FREE for ALL People multicultural art show and Expo which be held all day long from 11am-5pm. Additionally, The Grandparent Network of Durham will hold a “Cribs for Kids” drive and collect new items for newborns.
Community organizer Ann Atwater, artist and educator C. Omega Barnes, business woman and philanthropist Lonna Harkrader, community organizer and volunteer Barbara Lofton, educator and preacher Linda Kerr Norfleet, civil servant and community activist Yvonne Pena’, arts & community organizer Dianne Pledger, dance teacher and volunteer Kaye Sullivan and business woman Julia Taylor are scheduled to be honored.
This FREE for ALL People Celebration will also feature FREE Health Checks, a FREE Kids Coloring Station, FREE light refreshments, entertainment along with voter registration. Business and community leaders, vendors with unique gifts and live performers will be on site for guests to experience a sampling of local and emerging talent.
