Laura Korch received her BFA in Ceramics from Eastern Michigan University. After a one-year apprenticeship with John Glick, she worked as the Ceramics Studio Manager for the Ann Arbor Art Factory. She moved to Durham in the fall of 2007.
Laura’s pieces are mostly functional and explore narratives. Using details of her relationships and conversations as a starting point, she then references subjects such as children's books, traffic signs, retro video games, fabrics and the weather. Her work is revealed through a process called Scraffito. In this technique, slip is applied to the clay's surface while carved incisions create sharp, contrasting lines.
Laura is an instructor at Claymakers. Look for her Drawing on Forms class, which runs from November 7th through December 19th.
