Art-Tender Two!!
The Exquisite Corpse Show by Mark Cunningham and Jake Wood
Jan 30 – Feb 27
Artists' Manifesto...
“The exquisite corpse or consequences, a sort of parlor trick drawing game was first titled such in 1925 by the Dadaists. It is a drawing made by more than one person, usually a grotesque figure, where parts of the figure (corpse) are hidden by simply folding the paper to obscure the other collaborator’s work until, voila, all is revealed by unfolding the paper at drawing’s end.
The ribald and collaborative nature, and the fact that these are often done in smoky bars as a sort of bored amusement, often creating disposable works, is appealing to the art-tenders. Art-tender is a proletariat and cheap materials philosophy, made by the people for the people. We would like to thank all who helped with the making of the corpses: Betsy, Mark, Jacob, Jim, Anne, Roly, Dave, Eleanor, Joy, Sonja, Mary, Anne’s out of town friend Doug, the third old-timey singer Sean, Vera, Piedmont peeps, and other drunk friends. Thanks. All funds from sales will go to The Women’s Center of Durham.
