Rare opportunity to view original works by a living master, Carl Chiarenza

You'll be kicking yourself if you miss Carl Chiarenza's masterful abstract photographs here at Through This Lens. When the show's over these prints are returning to their home in upstate New York. Time's running short...

As Charles W. Millard, former director of Ackland Art Museum, wrote in an essay included in Chairenza’s 1988 monograph Landscapes of the Mind, “The question that naturally arises in confronting a body of work as impressive and beautiful as Chiarenza’s is, how can it remain so little known? ...like all good art, it is complex both emotionally and intellectually... In a perverse way, the fact that Chiarenza’s pictures are relatively little known is, given the milieu in which they exist, an assurance of their quality as well as of the fact that their power and beauty will survive and be noticed long after most of what is now generally admired has disappeared.”
