Free spirits, curious minds and able bodies are invited to come together this Third Friday for an evening where art, sound, and participatory movement will create synergy and provide a rich space for exploring what public healing means to you.
The source: art yields awareness
Wander through artist Amanda Barr's new works, exploring the intersection of suffering, spirituality and humor. Drawing from her surroundings and personal experience, Barr incorporates familiar cultural idioms and imagery, playing with the childlike sense of wonder that comes from the discovery of the natural world.
She explores the physical and spiritual dimensions of the human body via sculptural, textile and installation works. The fragility of both the human body and spirit is explored, ripped apart and stitched together again, some works bearing the sutures of metaphorical healing.
An on-site shaman guide will also invite guests to participate in a ritual search for meaning.
The inspiration: a sound elixir
Dwell for a time in wondrous imperfection and poignant transience on the second floor of Building 2. Khristian Weeks' sound installation is a co-mingling of separate and distinct aural events, at once demonstrating the impermanent nature of all phenomena and highlighting the beauty inherent in their often violent birth/ growth, and necessary decay/ dissolution – extremes orbiting around the ultimate reality of the present moment.
The action: through movement we heal
Come dance Nia in Building 6! Nia is a path to condition, heal and express your self through movement and sensation. A dynamic blend of dance arts, martial arts and healing arts, Nia has changed millions of lives and bodies across the globe. Nia is designed for any body. It is ageless and limitless, transformational and effective for every person because you move at your level, in your natural time. Instructors will help you to reconnect to sensation, stimulating your cells, muscles, joints and bones to heal. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
Food options will also be available, including Only Burger, Sabor Tacos, and special alchemy flavored treats!
