OPENING: The Confessional in ROOM 100, SafeKeeping, open studios + Only Burger

This Third Friday at Golden Belt, experience a unique interfacing of art and religion with the opening of The Confessional. Many dimensions of human life, from personal to social to structural, deal with themes of reconciliation and forgiveness. But what makes real reconciliation possible and what role do time-honored religious practices play in these stories?

In ROOM 100, Carole Baker, the artist who brought you Mary: The Paper Doll Project, creates a constructed environment in which viewers will enter and have an opportunity to reflect on the notions of sin, acknowledgment, brokenness, and healing. Confession is not solely a religious practice; it takes on many forms within both public and private settings. Regardless of the context, such practices are crucial for healing and reconciliation. It is Carole’s hope that The Confessional will inspire some form of healing for viewers. Installation runs through March 14, 2010 and is free and open to the public.

The walls of LabourLove Gallery continue to showcase SafeKeeping, Lori Vrba’s first solo show in the U.S. Through the lens of a camera, Lori explores the idea of protection—the desire to protect that which is, or is perceived to be vulnerable or sacred, how we do that, and when it is simply impossible. John and Kelly will have the heat press cranking and giclee prints from previous shows for sale, along with custom tees, bags and more.

In Building 3, shop an eclectic blend of 43 studio artists under one roof. Enjoy food, drink and more from Only Burger and others as you shop the amazing art, jewelry, handmade textiles, and more locally-inspired goods at Golden Belt.
