OPENING: Necessary Fictions, Wild Horses Solo Show, ReDress Green Drinks/Gallery Event, open studios

Get ready for another Third Friday that will not disappoint.

In Room 100, the new latino/a group exhibition Necessary Fictions will open. Curated by Mario Marzan and John Ribó, this show will feature paintings, installations, photography and videos which explore Latina/o identity as a necessary fiction, a provisional space, a transient structure to be eventually reconfigured under the duress of time and through the continued retracing of fictions and histories in transition. Featured artists include María DeGuzmán, Josué Pellot, Mario Marzan, Susy Bielak, Izel Vargas, and Francis Marquez.

The art exploration continues in LabourLove Gallery with the new Wild Horses solo show by gallery owner, Kelly Dew. Featuring some stunning, large works of art, LabourLove has teamed up with the North Carolina Therapeutic Riding Center which improves the lives of children through equine-assisted therapeutic programs. A portion of the sales of these paintings based on photos taken from the NCTRC pastures in Mebane, NC will go to the non-profit. Come out to support the NCTRC and LabourLove who is also celebrating its one-year anniversary of being in business. Local home brew master Jason Salemme will be offering up some free tastes for toasting their success.

From LabourLove, head upstairs to the second floor of Building 2 for the first-ever Gallery & Green Drinks: A Third Friday Event presented by the Triangle US Green Building Council’s Emerging Professionals. The exhibit will feature designs from the Redress Raleigh Eco-fashion show and local submissions to the 2010 US Green Building Council’s Natural Talent Design Competition. Network with the sustainability community and enjoy the cash bar available to those 21 & over.
