GET GLAZED & AMAZED IN THE BASEMENT
the BASEMENT gallery presents “P.G. Adams: Glazed & Amazed” from February 17th through March 14th, 2012.
Long-time Durhamite P.G. Adams, shares her new work in the BASEMENT with an exhibition that showcases her unique ceramic forms illuminated by the nuances of liquid glass.
From an early age, it was clear that P.G. Adams enjoyed having her hands in some sort of sticky mess, and specifically, having that particular mess bow to her intention. She played in paint, sand, mud and eventually clay, making castles, forts, animals and the human figure.
It was only natural that when her siblings were playing sports or taking piano lessons, that P.G. (then age 11), began earnestly studying with a local sculptor. Through the years she grew as an artist, first apprenticing, then moving on as a sculptor & ceramist in her own right.
When P.G. began sculpting in stoneware, her primary concern was with the form of the piece. She saw the surface as a mild enhancement and was careful to not let it be a distraction.
Today P.G. still explores form, but her attention, intention and passion has focused on the surface of her pieces. P.G. obsessively experiments with different glaze combinations and layering techniques, keeping meticulous notes and thoroughly documenting her process. The result? “P.G. Adams: Glazed & Amazed” – intensely interesting and beautifully functional works of art.
“P.G. Adams: Glazed & Amazed” will be on display from February 17th through March 14th, 2012.
